Earthquake!

We missed the first tremor as we were underground having sushi (and there is no telling whether it's a metro speeding by or something else). We were back in the office though to feel the aftershock.
For those of you who know the old Unitas student boat and remember what it felt like to have had 10 beers (or more) and then seeing the hanging lamps moving back and forth, well, that's what is felt like. The building definitely moved, by how much I couldn't tell, but there was no mistaking it (eventhough I like my alcohol, I haven't had any today, yet).
Anyway, eerybody remained calm and there was really no reason for panic, as the 5 seconds of tremor didn't seem to impress anyone.
The alarm system of the building however, gave us a field day. Had I already mentioned that the alarm randomly goes off a few times a week, always followed by an announcement apologizing for the false alarm? The result is that nobody ever pays attention to it anymore and everybody just carries on working. We often wonder what will happen to us when the alarm goes off when there actually is a fire or something...
Today though, it was a different scenario altogether. Just before and after the aftershock of the earthquake, the standard announcement was heard, apologising for the false alarm... Strange proceedings, considering that there hadn't been an alarm sound in the first place, but also that this time there had actually been a reason for the alarm to go off... I think the faith in our alarm system has been destroyed for good...
Looking out of the window after the tremors, we could actually see lots of people walking out of other office buildings, gathering on the side-walk... Obviously their alarm systems did work and they are paid attention to as well...
Just now we heard of the building intercom that the Singapore authorities have confirmed that there is nothing to worry about (just in case people were preparing to leave for safer grounds than the 22nd floor).
Anyway, we hope that Indonesia was not hit too bad (though as I am writing this weblog, the number of reported casualties has already increased to 26) while we carry on with just another day at the office...
Anything exciting happen in Holland, Australia, England or elsewhere?
Lots of love,
Timmo & Yaisa

Gelukkig zijn jullie ok en was het bij jullie niet al te ernstig! Hier hebben we alleen files (vandaag weer 300 km) en inderdaad veel regen. Morgen mogen we weer stemmen voor de Prov. Staten (very exciting indeed).
