Happy Queen's Day!

The Dutch community in Singapore celebrated Queen's Night on Thursday evening 24th of April at Harry's Boat Quay and Queen's Day on Saturday 26th of April at "The Residence" (of the Embassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, uf curse)...

Why Queen's Night on a Thursday and not on the Friday, if you're not doing it on the real night anyway? Well, because on Friday's, Harry's is always jam packed anyway, with lots of Dutchies and other expats... and Thursday's is usually a bit slower. So the Indian owner, who quite understandably doesn't give two hoots about Dutch tradition, always offers free flow of Heineken beer between 7pm and 9 pm on the Thursday before the real Queen's Night. And only if you wear something orange. And he serves bitterballs and herring. And it ends up being so crowded that you can just about manage to get two beers before the free flow is over so after that you hang around anyway to fullfil your alcoholic consumption needs. Mr Harry's return on investment is probably well worth it.

Anyway, having been there/done that/tick the box last year, I skipped the whole thing altogether this time and instead, went for unlimited Japanese buffet with my old neighbours and we ended up in the Karaoke lounge of a golf club, where I sang my entire Stanhope Tavern repertoire again for the first time in yonks and drank crisp & fresh white wine. Much more fun than hanging around fat & sweaty expats with beer breath...

But the celebrations in Amsterdam do sound good: Kane en Krezip on the Museumplein, I read on nu.nl... too bad I'll have to miss that!

Oh well, I still have the James Blunt concert to look forward to... :-)

Wishing you a sunny 30th of April,

Ha ha, leuk verhaal van Super Tuesday!Klonk als prima shopping! Hier een tamme koninginnedag. Gisteravond in A'dam met collega's (cq vrienden) doorgebracht, erg gezellig. Kleine Juliette kreeg een oranje boa om voor haar eerste koniginnenach (big smile,ze weigerde meteen om nog te gaan slapen, lekker rammen met een oranje ballon).
    Duik ze binnenkort!
